Working at SBT
Proud to be a fantastic place to work
Our people are at the heart of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Everything we achieve is thanks to the dedication and passion of our staff and volunteers, whose contribution underpins all that we do.
We are committed to being a responsible and supportive employer, creating opportunities for all who work with us and ensuring that equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging are woven into the fabric of our organisation – across our staff, volunteers, and Trustee Board.
Our Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) Planning Group is currently developing a Trust-wide action plan and delivering awareness sessions to build knowledge and confidence among staff and volunteers. Alongside this, our Proud Shakespeare Delivery Group is leading an initiative to reinterpret our collections and services through an LGBTQ+ lens, celebrating and reflecting the continuing impact of LGBTQ+ communities, including our audiences, colleagues, and volunteers. We are especially looking forward to participating in the second cohort of the Museum Associations’ Anti-racist Museum Programme which commences in October 2025.
We are proud to be recognised as an organisation that values its people. Over the years, we have been named among The Times Top 100 Not-for-Profit Organisations to Work For. We are members of the 5% Club, a dynamic movement dedicated to building momentum in apprenticeship recruitment, and we are a Disability Confident Committed Employer (Level 1), demonstrating our commitment as inclusive employers.
This is an exciting moment to be part of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. With a renewed vision and ambitious plans for the future, we warmly welcome those who want to join us on our journey and help shape the next chapter of Shakespeare’s story.
